Metaphor of the Day – National Christmas Tree Dies

After the national Christmas tree was damaged in storm, the park service replaced in March of 2011.  That tree has now died.  It is said that it had transplant shock.  The tree sits on the ellipse.  For those not familiar with the geography in DC, that is right near The White House.

The metaphors for this are never-ending.

They will be planting a new tree in October.

The Park Service would be well advised to postpone the planting date until after November 4.

Quote of the Day – Paul Quander Edition

The problem is, if you are armed, it escalates the situation,” “It is much better, in my opinion, to be scared, to be frightened, and even if you have to be, to be injured, but to walk away and survive. You’ll heal, and you can replace whatever was taken away.”

Paul Quander, Washington, D.C., Deputy Mayor of Public Safety and Justice

Yeah, the problem is that violent crime and deaths are way up in DC.  Close to 50% since the beginning of the year.  Don’t worry just get shot, ain’t no thing.  The wound will heal.  If you end up in wheelchair or coma oh well,  better luck next time.

If everyone carried a weapon, then the drive by cowardly thugs might think twice before shooting their victims.

This applies to individuals as well as countries. I turn to what Reagan said about this, “Of the four wars in my lifetime none came about because the U.S. was too strong.”

Thank you ! My local paper has a letter on the subject of disarming the citizenry. The writer`s point is, gun control does not make us safer. I agree and would add my two cents, but it`s already devolved into the predictable nonsensical loony leftist diatribe, so I ain`t botherin` !

So many libs have the same fear and rationale of an acquaintance of mine. She had inherited a pistol from her grandparents, along with a house way out in the country. She was afraid of guns and wanted to give it to me. I thought she should keep it and know how to use it as she would be living alone. Nope, she didn`t want it in her home. After failing to convince her it was a well made and safe gun, offering to train her in care, safe storage and shooting, I finally asked her, “Are you actually afraid this gun is just looking for a chance to jump up and shoot someone ?” She said, “Yes !” True story and I know people with similar stories.

Several at the paper`s w/s deny that our gooberment wants us disarmed so we can be more easily controlled; that the 2nd Amendment is there precisely for us to defend ourselves from a tyrannical government, not just would-be criminals !

          SignPainterGuy,

Check this video out. I think you will like it, AND it is a true story.

And here is a textual account of the actual event:

Thanks again, Don, that was new to me. Just think, had there been gun control laws in place at the time, that entrenched boss`s family and friends could still be in power today. A clear demonstration of what the framers of our Constitution had in mind when they declared that “Not Only” a well regulated militia, but every day citizens must not be disallowed their rights to gun ownership !

Yeah, it made me stop and think that this happened not that long ago in the grand scheme of things.

I used to live in a small town in east-central Illinois where a very similar situation existed. I ended up moving away because of the rampant corruption, did not want my kids in that environment.
