Setting Brush Fires In People’s Minds

When the haunting voices of our Founding Fathers with their warnings about tyranny mix with the voices of today’s politicians who demonize us with their scathing epithets, it sets brush fires in people’s minds.

Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution states that the President shall take the Oath of Office—”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” [Emphasis mine.]

How should Americans react to this president’s belligerence toward opponents of the sweeping legislation known as ObamaCare?

“There’s been plenty of fear-mongering, plenty of overheated rhetoric. You turn on the news; you’ll see the same folks are still shouting about there’s going to be an end of the world because this bill passed.  I’m not exaggerating. Leaders of the Republican Party, they called the passage of this bill Armageddon. Armageddon. End of freedom as we know it. So after I signed the bill, I looked around to see if there were any asteroids falling or some cracks opening up in the Earth. It turned out it was a nice day.  Birds were chirping. Folks were strolling down the Mall.”

With the passage of America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 AKA ObamaCare, Attorneys General of thirteen states have filed suit to try to block the overhaul after the bill signing, saying that the law is unconstitutional and because this president is one of the worst presidents in terms of obedience to constitutional limitations.  This is just the beginning of small scale atrocities against democracy yet to come. But he and his minions cannot drown us out.

And now we learn from Byron York, writing for The Washington Examiner, that Democrats are planning an aggressive campaign to “intimidate and silence opponents of the Democrats’ flawed health care reform legislation.”

I spent the wee hours of last night trying to console my best friend.  I learned that her eldest son, a Type I diabetic who was diagnosed thirty-two years ago, had been hospitalized and placed on dialysis.  For those of you unfamiliar with dialysis, it is a three-times weekly procedure requiring the patient to have his blood filtered to remove harmful wastes that build up in the body, raises blood pressure and causes the body to retain excess fluids and not make enough red blood cells.  It is a treatment to replace the work of failing kidneys.

Kidney dialysis is in jeopardy with ObamaCare.  USA Today addresses this health care issue and particular attention should be paid to the section entitled “What Happens Next?”

My friend of thirty-two years is a strong woman who has great faith in God’s mercy but last night she was inconsolable.

On August 13, 2009, I posted an article about Obama’s reckless demagoguery and the reprimand it brought him from the American Medical Association.

The Cato Institute’s blog discusses ObamaCare’s $28 Billion Medicaid gimmick.  Since my friend’s son is only forty-eight, he is on Medicaid.  I am outraged with Obama and his minions’ astounding ignorance of the deadliness of this chronic disease.

Remember when Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) said, “Read the bill? What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?” Or the Speaker of House saying, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

This president and his minions are trying to drown us out.  We cannot let that happen.  I can’t do anything for my friend’s son while he lies there helpless in his hospital bed, but I can damn sure fight alongside each of you to stop the atrocities against our republic.  I hear the voices of the wise men who sacrificed so much to create a land of boundless freedom—this America.  I will not be drowned out no matter how much they try to demonize you and me.

If you think I’m just whistling in the dark, then consider the words of Doc Zero:

“A compassionate nation, whose daily industry has done more for the downtrodden than every utopian scheme combined, has no reason to lower its head in shame, and tolerate the extraction of ‘charity’ at gunpoint. The veterans of bloody wars against lawless tyranny should not accept a system that makes fools of the industrious. A great people, who live in reverence of equality, require no lists of class and racial enemies from opportunistic politicians.”

“This is the hour for passion and reason, not anger and disgust. The strength to restore our prosperity lies in the muscle and imagination of citizens who have been programmed to think of themselves as sheep, by those who seek power as their shepherds. The time for averting a painful disaster is short…but the most amazing chapters of American history were written in the last seconds before midnight. It’s time for us to be amazing again. I hope you find that as invigorating as I do.”
