Conservative Blogs Dying?
That’s what John Hawkins at Right Wing News says, he also says that smaller blogs should give up because they have no future. I have a message for John Hawkins and all the other “big important” people who wish that we’d all just go away. You can read it HERE.
Oh, and you know what’s funny? The people commenting to my post about Hawkins’ gloom and doom both at my place and over at that page I run at facebook are asking, “Who is John Hawkins?” – I think maybe he’s the one with the problem, not the smaller & newer blogs in the right-blogosphere.
BigFurHat at iOTW is spearheading a wonderful effort to help other bloggers, HERE, check it out.

If he thinks conservatives have no future with blogs, he should have seen us before we had blogs!

I wish I could hit a “like” button, QR (blasted! so infected by facebook!)

I think he’s just jealous, because the smaller independent blogs have been growing & having an effect, while the bigger establishment types are losing readers because like the MSM, they won’t touch a lot of the issues that us “nobodies” will. People are going to the independent blogs for information that they can’t find elsewhere.

John who ?! Of course I`d never heard of you either until just before you kidnapped me ! ;-)

I’m noticing that a lot of people never heard of him, I guess he’s not as big & important as he would have those he’s telling to go away believe.

Hawkins is a good guy and a staunch conservative. His comments are directed more to the business end of blogging. Me? I don’t care about buzz or money. I don’t even have ads on my blog, and my traffic has more than doubled this past year.
I do agree his comments really dissed us small time bloggers, and I think he’s earned everything you guys have thrown at him.

I agree with you that he’s earned our retribution.

Good point Silverfiddle, about him talking about the bloggers who are trying to make money or get noticed. Shame he couldn’t do it in a more clear way, though, he’s drawing a lot of heat from small bloggers (like me).

I think he did it for self preservation. He sees his traffic dying & is now enjoying a huge bump from us, and if anyone were to take his terrible advise, he’d have less of what he perceives to be competition. Demoralize us & we’ll go away, seems to be his strategy.

John Hawkins could use a decent haircut and a new shirt. It doesn’t look good for a big important guy like him to appear so shabby…

Yeah, his image kind of gives credence to the stereotype of blogging from one’s mother’s basement.

Thanks for your post, Zilla. I read the Hawkins piece and found it pretty discouraging. Yours and Jimmie’s were good antidotes.
And thanks for the link. You’re a peach.
Thanks for the lols, guys.

You’re welcome, Jill. You were the first blogger to give my blog exposure when I was just starting out. I consider you far more important than John Hawkins, and you’ve been a real hero when it comes to helping out other bloggers, regardless of how big or small they may be. That’s how it should be. John Hawkins has done an incredible disservice to Conservative writers everywhere. I think he may have an ulterior motive as he realizes his own growing irrelevancy. Most of my readers had never even heard of him before my post!

Thanks very much, but I often link to others the lazy way, with my RSS feeds rather than in posts. I do hope it helps a little.
I’d like to put in a good word for Michelle Malkin (not that she needs it from me) but she makes it a point to link to smaller bloggers in her Buzzworthy section. People have asked how I got linked there and I don’t know for sure, just have a theory that writing in the Green Room got me noticed. And for that I have to thank Stacy McCain, who mentioned my when the GR got started and Hot Air was still owned by MM.
As for opportunities, have you all noticed The Conservatory’s call for writers?

What you do DOES help, I can tell from my blogger stats, and I also find great stuff to check out in your side bar. Do you think The Conservatory would want an anti-jihad blogger? Many conservatives shy away from people who metaphorically go after the islamic supremacists and their leftist enablers.

This Hawkins guy obviously has little understanding of what is happening in this country because what is happening is clearly reflected in the way that people surf the internet, especially in the conservative blogosphere. We don’t want a single (or several) monolithic know-it-alls telling us what to think, say, do, and be. And that doesn’t just mean the LSM and government, it means within our own ranks. We want–and will return to–a government by, for, and of the people. Is it any wonder that we want the internet and our news to be the same? If Hawkins is too out-of-touch to see, much less understand, this then . . . well, I guess we all know why so few people have ever even heard of him.
(I just posted this comment at another conservative blog that Hawkins thinks should just go home; I thought it fitting here, as well.)

Preach it sister! The above message is worth repeating in many places.
