Quote of the Day – Alex Conant Edition

We haven’t had a cohort of people living permanently in US without full rights of citizenship since slavery.

Alex Conant is the media spokesperson for Senator Marco Rubio.

Oh my.  I am just shaking my head.  I have been somewhat supportive of Rubio’s plan on immigration.  I am of the mind that we need to actually solve the problem because it will just continue to get worse unless we do.

But to say something like this.  I am in utter disbelief that someone that works for a senator would say something like this.  Um, slaves didn’t come here voluntarily and break our laws while doing so.

This is not the way to win over the conservative base that Rubio will need to get this passed.  This man really hurt his boss today and hurt the chances of us getting something done that may have a chance of securing our borders.

Quote of the Day – Carmen Nieves Edition

“In that Republican Party, there is a tolerance problem, These are things that have to be done, and I’m expecting them to be done, I see a person who is doing his job.”

Carmen Nieves, from Albany, New York, answering a survey on President Obama granting visa’s to children brought here illegally by their parents.

The problem is that Nieves is only looking at this from an emotional point of view, she completely dismisses the rule of law.  Even if you agree that we should be granting some sort of visa to children who were brought to this country through no fault of their own, that doesn’t mean that President Obama gets to skirt the constitution.  Which is exactly what he has done.

This is something that has to be done legislatively, not done by decree.  We don’t have dictators or kings in this country for a very good reason.

We have to come up a with a solution that makes sense.  The truth is this, we do not have the political will to remove millions upon millions of illegals from this country.  It is not going to happen.  The polling on this is clear, only a small percentage of people want to go the deportation route.  But for Obama to just sign an executive order saying that visa’s will be given to illegals is wrong.  How you feel about the visa is not the issue.  This is about the rule of law.  This is about a president who thinks that he is above the law.  This is also about people who are willingly giving their freedoms away.  The ends do not justify the means.  We have a system of government in this country.  President Obama doesn’t get to disregard it.  Even if Ms. Carmen likes the outcome.

I feel very sorry for Carmen Nieves.

***According to Bloomberg, Ms. Nieves is of Puerto Rican heritage, therefore a visa for her or her family is not an issue.

Someone offered a hypothetical situation for consideration; a theater manager discovers that a family, 2 adults and 3 young children, are seated, watching a movie the children would not normally choose to see, but they have not paid for admission. Who does the mgr. remove; just the adults or the entire family ? The theater has rules and the mgr. has a duty to perform.

Rush pointed out today that “no one” would want to break up a family, allowing the children who are here by no fault / choice of their own to stay while deporting the parents. You`re right, jacg, this country DOES lack the political will to deport Millions of illegals. We need to change that pol. will !

So It Begins, New Haven, CT Mayor Requesting that Illegals Vote

Yes, you read that correctly.  New Haven, CT mayor John DeStefano-D (Shocker, he is a democrat) has put in a petition into state authorities requesting that everyone be allowed to vote in local elections.  You don’t even need to be in the country legally.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

The estimate of the illegal population in New Haven is said to be about 10,000 to 12,000.  New Haven is what one would call a sanctuary city.  They gave all residents a municipal ID card to so everyone would have access to city services such as the library and also have the ability to open a bank account.  So, I suppose this is the next logical step.

It is said that Gov. Malloy is willing to listen to the mayor, but doesn’t seem to willing to approve it.

The Democratic governor said he believes there are obligations and privileges that come with legal citizenship, but he’s willing to “hear the mayor out” on his proposal.
