Here come the snack police
Another study furthering the Michelle Obama agenda. Granted, kids these days probably need more exercise but must we all be herded about? And lectured:
“Our kids didn’t do this to themselves,” Obama said.
As Pundette linked this morning, what next? Shaming perfectly healthy children at school?
We constantly get conflicting signals on what’s healthy and what’s not. The only thing I reliably take away from it all is moderation in what you eat and how you exercise.
The other reliable take-away is that someone in the Obama administration is going to try to tax the next “vice”. They’ll never ban it, that would be too inconvenient, they’ll just tax it.
P.S. Is this causing stress in their marriage? (I know, too cheesy, but it was staring me in the face.)

From the study you linked to: “U.S. children eat an average three snacks a day on top of three regular meals, a finding that could explain why the childhood obesity rate has risen to more than 16 percent, researchers said on Tuesday.” I consider this perfectly normal eating. It’s a pattern often recommended to dieters. It keeps the blood sugar at a steadier level and prevents extreme hunger that can lead to overeating. Of course, it’s what kids are snacking on, not so much how often they are eating. The article did mention the bane of sugary sodas, etc. If there is an obesity epidemic, isn’t it likely that it’s related to the changes in family structure and routine?
Not everyone is convinced that there is a childhood obesity epidemic.

Yes. I seem to remember “grazing”–eating more, smaller meals was a better approach.
This sugary soda business has been known for at least 20 years–I remember the cautions on it when my kids were little–now they’re young adults. So why is this an “epidemic” now?

Because it fits into Michelle Obama’s nagging nanny cause and is open to taxation to help pay for all the wonderful entitlements Obama wants.
The Left has shown a repeated pattern of demonization and taxation on selected products.
Yeah, I know you already know this. But I can’t keep myself from typing it. It irks me too much.

It was kind of funny in Chicago a year or so ago. The city wanted to tax bottled water. Boy did you see the liberals go nuts over that.

Michelle Obama made an appearance at a school nutrition conference on Monday and she credited school cafeterias with helping to strengthen national security. She didn’t explain the correlation most likely because there isn’t one. My guess is childhood obesity is no longer a crisis, it’s now a national security issue.
